Route des Vins d’Alsace (Mont Sainte-Odile, day 2)

After visiting Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg, it was about noon. Bergheim is around 10min drive away only so we decided to stop at this completely fortified town with towers and walls for lunch. The village was very quite due to the fact that it was a Sunday, but there were still a few restaurants to choose from. We decided to try our luck in the one that looks the most local.

Before heading to our final destination, Strasbourg, we decided to drop by Mont Sainte-Odile. Mont Sainte-Odile is ideally located in between Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg and Strasbourg, about 45km from each place, making it a perfect stop for an hour or so.

Mont Sainte-Odile is a 760-meter high peak in the Vosges Mountain. We can enjoy an extraordinary view of the Alsatian valley and visit the convert there. There isn’t much to see inside the convert, three fully decorated chapels and that’s about it unless you are into religious history and you can read through all the information given there. But the view from the terrace is spectacular, once we visit, I understand why it draws so many tourists.

Alsace itinerary

To sum up our second day in Alsace, our itinerary is as follow:

  • The morning in Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg
  • Lunch in nearby village Bergheim
  • An hour or so in Mont Sainte-Odile
  • Drive to Strasbourg and spend the night there

I hope it helps you to plan a future trip to Alsace 🙂
