Where should I go next?…
Along the Route des Vins d’Alsace, not far from Sélestat, Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is a must-visit between Colmar (26k North) and Strasbourg (55km South).
Before you jump in your car and drive there for a visit, let me tell you a little tip about parking spots there at the château.
The château is located all the way up a mountain and instead of having a large open area for parking like most tourist attractions do, the parking is on one side of the road once you reach the top. Being one of the most visited sites in Alsace, it means that you are going to park far far downhill if you arrive late, and you can well prepare at least a good 15-minute walk back up to the château.
We arrived right at the opening time and our visit was in May (not yet the high tourist season) thus we were lucky to find a spot about 5-minute walk away.
So get there early and get the best parking spots if you want to avoid the walk, and of course, the line to get the entry tickets.
Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is impressive, from the exterior to the interior. It brings you back to Middle Age.
And then there is the view of the valleys, I am not disappointed at all!
