Where should I go next?…

Montpellier: a day at zoo

With less than 10€ and around half an hour train from Nîmes is the capital of Languedoc-Roussillon, Montpellier. I have visited this city a few times so far. Coming from a big city myself, I would admit I have a strict definition among city, town and village. And Montpellier can definitely be called a city.

However, I am not going to introduce the famous Place de la Comédie in the city center nor the cathedral. What interests me most in Montpellier is the Montpellier Parc Zoologique.

The zoo is located out of the center, but you can still reach the zoo with public transport (take the tram and change to bus). Of course, we came directly with our car.

Compared to the 15 to 20€ entry fee that other zoos charge, the zoo here is free! The counter on the left is for the Amazonian greenhouse which however requires an entry fee. If you decide not to visit the greenhouse, you can simply begin your visit at the zoo.

Inside the greenhouse, most of the animals are fish and reptiles. In my opinion, the zoo itself is much more interesting than the greenhouse. It is amazing to see so many animals there (more than 100 species), from lion, bear, to other herbivores. It was a pity that the day we went was too cold for some of the animals to come out.

Here are some photos I took at the zoo:

On a side note, there is also an aquarium in Montpellier. It is nice to do something different from time to time in our trip.

Bon voyage à tous 🙂
